Imagine stepping up to bat at the last game of the season. There is a full count of 2 strikes and 3 balls with 2 outs in the game and you’re losing by 2 runs. The game is about to end, the pitcher throws the ball, and you swing. At first you don’t realize what happened, then your instinct tells you to start running. The ball is flying past the fence…it’s a GRAND SLAM! Things like this happen when Preston Harvey and his team have a game of baseball. Preston plays for the WAVE baseball travel team. His jersey number is 12 and he plays center field (CF), Shortstop (SS), and Pitcher (P).

He has been playing at these positions for about 9 years with both recreational and travel teams. The seasons last for 3-6 months depending on whether it’s recreational or travel. The games are usually on the weekends and the games are usually in Pensacola, Milton, and Gulf Breeze. Preston practices pitching, and the fastest throw he has ever thrown was a 70-miles-per-hour ball. Preston’s team had an amazing record of 13-0, which means they won all the games in the season and didn’t lose any of them. Although they had a perfect record, it was not played on WAVE so they didn’t win the series.

Preston’s team is composed of sixth graders, seventh graders, and eighth graders. One of the kids on his team is Trever DuPont, 6th. He says, “He [Preston] is a powerful hitter and has one of the farthest throws on our team.” Another teammate is Tommy Joy, 8th grader, who says, “Preston is a very well rounded player with no weakness.” Bedside’s baseball, Preston plays basketball for the Sharks. Sharks is a rec based travel team. In Preston’s free-time, he likes to hang out with his friends at the rec and other places.  All in all, Preston is an amazing athlete and you never know, he could be the next Babe Ruth.
