On Friday, September 15,  all new GBMS students who moved from outside of Santa Rosa County gathered together in the cafeteria and met other people who are also new to the area. There were 102 students in all at the New Student Welcome. Students from all around the world moved here this year, even from Peru, Vietnam, and Japan!

There was an activity where the counselors laid out cards that had different states and countries that all the students had come from. Each student had to go to their correct card and other students were there too and they got to know each other better.

Many students met other peers during the welcome party. Augustina Delapp, 6th grade, said, “Gulf Breeze Middle is a really great school!” and mentioned that she met new friends very quickly. Another student, Caitlin Yamasta, also in 6th grade, explained, “My favorite elective is P.E. because I love to run.”

Ava Brown, 7th grade, and Emily Grace Tucker, 6th grade, surprisingly came from the same town in Mississippi, where they had never met, even though they went to the same school (West Lauderdale). Both families happened to move to Gulf Breeze, and the two girls met for the first time and discovered that they came from the same home town and school from Mississippi. They both agree that it was crazy that they had to drive over more than 100 miles to meet each other.

Ava Brown, 7th grade, and Emily Grace Tucker, 6th grade, share a unique connection as new GBMS students!

All the students at the welcome reception had smiles on their faces while having a great laugh with their new friends. Making friends is a great start for a new school year!
