GBMS 7th grader Baylen Crance was recently accepted into the Art of Movement Assistant Program, where she will travel around the country on their 2017-2018 tour to assist instructors at competition workshops.  This prestigious program only selected 50 dancers out of the whole country. Baylen performed in The Dance Awards, Orlando 2017, an event that recognizes the most talented dancers and allows them to compete for the win. She also was invited and attended a summer program in Los Angeles to practice dancing on camera, which will help her in the future with her dance career.

Baylen’s achievements did not come easily, however. She dances six days a week, ranging from six to seven hours per day.  She is a very well-rounded dancer who practices and performs many types of dance, including hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, tap, and ballet. Her favorite styles of dance are hip-hop and contemporary, because they allow her to have a mixture of high and low tempos. Baylen has danced almost every day of her life since she was three years old. When Baylen’s mom first enrolled her only in ballet and tap, she didn’t enjoy it at all, but since then she has excelled in many styles, and can’t stay away from her studio, Labelle Performing Arts.

When asked why she dances, and what it means to her, she responded, “Not only is it fun, but it allows me to express myself . . . even though it sounds cheesy.”  Baylen’s mom, Ms. Jamie Crance, is especially proud and excited for Baylen’s journey.  She grew up dancing, and couldn’t wait until Baylen could, too.  Now Baylen’s competitive dancing has taken her all over the country.  Gracyn Phelps, 7th grade, also a dancer at LPA states, “Baylen has a really strong work ethic, she’s very confident, and never misses a beat.”
