Disclaimer: Split is PG-13 for a reason. Talk with your parents before watching.

Split is a movie created by M. Night Shyamalan. If you know about his works, you should know that they are bizarre, strange, and the endings are always unpredictable. If you want a story that’s out of the ordinary, but also has a great story line, this movie is perfect.

Split starts with Casey, Claire, and Marcia getting kidnapped from a birthday party at the mall. These teenage girls are kept in a basement for unknown reasons. They then find out that the man who kidnapped them is named Kevin Wendell Crumb. But even with how strange this thriller is already, the girls discover that this man has 23 distinct personalities (Dissociative Identity Disorder) that include, but are not limited to, a woman, a nine year old boy, and a man with OCD. Kevin also goes to his psychologist, Dr. Karen Fletcher, who is aware of his personalities, but doesn’t suspect that he kidnapped three girls.

It is brought up multiple times in the film that Casey (one of the girls who have been kidnapped) was abused by her uncle. The teens try to figure out which personality is the weakest that will help them to escape, and manipulate the weakest to get what they need. When they think they’re getting close to escaping, they find out that there is a 24th personality, and it’s coming. Who will survive?
