GBMS is a very respectful school and students have found many ways to express respect for each other, their teachers, and their environment. Two students in particular have been making school days brighter this year by showing their classmates and teachers a little extra respect and consideration. They are Perrin Moran and Haley Cartee.

Haley Cartee holds the door for other students

Students Perrin Moran and Haley Cartee have held the door for the students and staff of GBMS all year to show their respect for them. Students and teachers with their hands full find it hard to open the doors, but if it is already open, they can go without slowing down or struggling to open the door. They’ve  gained a lot of respect and popularity from holding the doors. They have received many high fives and thank yous. According to teacher assistant Sarah Johnson, “People give (Perrin) high-fives and say thank you, but he doesn’t seem to do it for any other reason other than to be respectful.” She also says he holds the door for the duration of the period between bells.

With Perrin and Haley always holding the doors, it makes it easier to get around, but some worry this might make them late to class. Whenever they hold the door, they need to manage their time so they aren’t late. Perrin says, I’ve surprisingly never been late to class for holding doors.”

Perrin also states, “I think it’s fun to hold doors, and it’s nice to hold doors for other people.” He says he enjoys high fives and makes him feel like he did something good. He hasn’t received any hate from students but only questions about why he does it.

Haley also says, “It’s a nice thing to do.” Haley mentions she doesn’t want students to be late and she hasn’t been late yet, either. Perrin and Haley have been holding doors since the beginning of the year. When Perrin and Haley shows there respect to GBMS students and staff, they get it right back.
