If you are a fan of video games, old movies, or virtual reality, this is a movie for you. Also, your parents too, since most of the movie has great throwbacks to the 80s and 90s.

Based on the 2011 novel, Ready Player One, written by Ernest Cline, and with the help of award-winning director Steven Spielberg, it’s a must see. The setting is 2045 in a world that has declined into poverty and hopelessness. The only escape is through virtual reality, and into the OASIS. Once it is announced that there is an Easter egg within the game that will ensure full ownership of OASIS to the finder, the game is on. It kind of reminded me of Willy Wonka, when the last kid standing won the company, and as in most movies with this type of plot, it brings out the bad guys as well as the good guys. Some of the great comebacks are King Kong, Planet Doom, Back to the Future, Atari, as well as the characters in them. The visual effects in this movie are fantastic and although the movie is 2 hours and 20 minutes long, you will never notice with all of the edge-of-your-seat action sequences.

If you don’t have plans this weekend, grab your friends and family and go check out Ready Player One.
