The front cover of this year’s yearbook oozes creativity and works with the dynamic vibe of the rest of the yearbook.

Earlier this month, yearbooks were given out to students who pre-ordered them online and to those who purchased the extras. The yearbook’s theme this year is based around super heroes and comic books with the motto being “Step Up to Our Level.” Ash Arnold, 8th grade says, “I like the layout. I feel like the layout is better this year than last year.”

This year’s yearbook is a lot more dynamic than previous iterations. One person on this year’s yearbook staff, Kate Cabassa, 8th grade, said, “Gulf Breeze Middle School is known for being academically driven and getting top grades, so we decided that a theme having to do with that would work. We decided to grow on the idea: Step Up to Our Level.” Kate and Peyton Bunting took inspiration from professionally “sassy” yearbook designs at FSPA, or the Florida Scholastic Press Association’s annual conference. Yearbook quotes tie into the comic book theme by being word bubbles nearby the student’s picture.

Kate also says, “Step Up to Our Level would represent the academic achievements of the school as well as adding a sassy feel. The theme was different than anything we’ve ever done before and the class liked that. When we got back to school Mrs. Player had us get in a group and come up with a theme to create practice spreads and covers on. It was then when we decided to go with a comic book/super hero theme because at GBMS we all are heroes.”

A lot of work has gone into this yearbook with many students enjoying the design. The theme of “Step Up to Our Level” really does show the pride of our school efficiently, and its design is a joy.

“We couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out and the yearbook class is so grateful that y’all like it.” -Kate Cabassa, 2017-2018 yearbook staff
