GBMS has welcomed a new custodian named Mr. Verdie Pogue. Mr. Verdie has been a custodian for 27 years and absolutely loves it. He smiles and waves to the students as he works and loves to see them as they grow. His favorite part about his job is “being able to see the mess and watch the progress of it being cleaned up.” Last year Mr. Verdie worked at Gulf Breeze Elementary School and soon moved over to GBMS. Before the elementary school, he took five years retirement and is now back to the job he loves!

So far Mr. Verdie thinks the school is “wonderful.” He states that the middle school is not much different from the elementary school and he is starting to figure things out. You may have seen him holding open the door before and after lunch or walking around the hallways in the morning unlocking the doors for the students spilling in and out of classes. Mr. Verdie does his job very happily and hopes to continue it as long as he can. He plans on continuing his job until he is 65 or 70, and he claims that, “even when I retire, I will keep cleaning.” Mr. Verdie would like the students to “respect one another, and use the trash can!”

It’s important to keep the school clean for many reasons that most students don’t even think about. We don’t want our students to get sick because our school is dirty, and we also don’t want students tripping over backpacks or chairs and getting hurt, so let’s respect the school and clean up after ourselves. Mr. Verdie is excited to continue the year being GBMS’s new custodian and we are thrilled to have him.
