Teachers are human and can’t come to school every day, much like the students. Thankfully, GBMS has many amazing substitute teachers to fill in for them on the days they are not there. Substitute teaching is a very difficult job in education and it takes a very strong person to do it. Mr. Ware, Mrs. Kietzmann, and Mrs. Mckinney are just a few of the many substitutes at our school that are here almost every day.

Mr. Ware, “enjoys teaching the kids.”

Mr. Ron Ware became a substitute because he enjoys, “teaching kids different subjects in school.” His favorite subject to teach is history. Before becoming a substitute teacher, Mr. Ware owned a retail store. Since then, he has only taught at GBMS and loves it.

Another substitute is Mrs. Alice McKinney. She became a substitute teacher because she, “enjoys being with students and young people.” Her favorite subject to substitute for is English, because she used to teach it at Ferry Pass Middle School for 11 years.

Mrs. Susan Kietzmann is another substitute at GBMS most students have had, or heard of her. Mrs. Kietzmann taught at GBMS for 35 years and started subbing because she, “just started missing the kids.” She claims, “something funny is always happening with them.” Her favorite subjects to teach are language arts and the ESE classes. She taught ELA for so many years and adores reading, and the ESE students, “are just so loving, sweet and always work hard.” Mrs. Kietzmann retired in 2013 and stayed out for a little while, stating she was, “just lazy.” She is now back and has only subbed for GBMS classes.

Mrs. Kietzmann states, “I just love the kids.”

GBMS is very happy to have all our amazing substitute teachers. Classes can get a little loud and hard to handle but it is rewarding in the end. Substitute teachers are very important to schools and make an impact in the school system. They understand they can make a difference in the students and can help them learn while doing it.

Wonderful article! I love the lead — definitely caught my interest. Your interviewing skills are top notch, too — I can literally hear Mr. Ware, Mrs. McKinney and Mrs. Kietzmann’s voices when I read their quotes. Great work, Coral!
