More clubs are here at GBMS! The new clubs are Debate Club, First Priority Club, and Good Grief Club. None of them require an application. They are just “walk in” clubs, meaning you can just join.

First Priority Club (Ms. Barona, sponsor)

This club is about “Teaching kids about faith in Jesus,” says Will Curran, 7th grade. Will is the president of this student-led club, however, he says, “Everyone shares the leadership.” This clubs meets every Tuesday morning from 7:00 – 7:25 a.m. This club meets in room 0125 (Ms. Barona’s room). Students can still join this club. They have doughnuts, so who wouldn’t want to go? Sometimes they will bring someone in from our community with a testimony. This club might be for you if you enjoy learning about Jesus.

Debate Club (Mr. Specht and Ms. Bryars, sponsors)

Debate Club is about students putting together a sound factual argument with various paths of research to provide positive results when presenting their arguments. Students can still join this club, too. The focus of the debate and competition styles will be flowing through adaptation. This club meets every Wednesday in Lab 103 from 1:40 until 2:30 p.m. unless told otherwise. This club might be for you if you like debating with your parents.

Good Grief Club (Ms. Barona, sponsor)

Good Grief Club is about helping offer peer support for students in grades 6-8 who have suffered from loss of loved ones. The focus of this club is to help students find comfort and know that they are not alone during this time. This club existed last year but ended when the president of the club went to high school. So Ms. Barona decided to start it up again for the kids who are still in middle school. This club begins on October 30, 2018, in room 0125 (Ms. Barona’s room) from 1:36-2:30 p.m. after school. From October 30 and on, students will meet every Tuesday. This club offers light refreshments for everyone, so come and enjoy a refreshment and get comfortable. This club might be for you if you’re having a hard time with a loss of a loved one.

These new clubs are inspirations for trying new things at GBMS. Come out of your shell and join a club where you might make new friends.
