Tucked away behind the GBHS football stadium lies a place called the Arbors. This resort-like building houses many elderly residents. Two of these residents are Gerald and Sara Munday. They are in the independent living portion of the Arbors. Mrs. Munday was raised on the border of Alabama and Mississippi and Mr. Munday in Kentucky.

Their most memorable life experience happened when they married 65 years ago. They later moved to Gulf Breeze when Mr. Munday was offered the job as pastor of Gulf Breeze United Methodist Church.  Growing up, their three sons were friends with Brian Spencer, who was the architect for the Arbors, and the Mundays became the first residents of the Arbors. They also got to choose which unit they wanted to live in. “The Arbors is like our third family,” says Gerald Munday. Their first family is evident by the many pictures of generations of Mundays on their refrigerator and their second family are their friends from church.

The Mundays also give back to the community by doing volunteer work. Mr. Munday volunteers at Interfaith Ministries and Mrs. Munday volunteers at the Good Samaritan Clinic. While not volunteering, Sara loves working on her cross-stitch masterpieces and Gerald hasn’t decided what he wants to do for a hobby yet, but he loves mealtime! When they were in middle school, Mrs. Munday liked math the most, although English was a close second. Mr. Munday admitted he didn’t put school first because he worked many jobs at a very young age but stresses the importance of focusing on your studies and schoolwork.

Gerald and Sara are just one wise couple out of the many great people at the Arbors. And their kind, welcoming personalities and interesting stories are a nice addition to the Gulf Breeze community!
