Many students at GBMS have Mr.  Fearon. He teaches 8th grade advanced and non-advanced science. Students love his class because of the hands-on activities. Throughout the year his students have done multiple labs such as crime investigation, chemical reactions, and making ice cream!

On March 14 his students came into class unaware that they would be able to make a sweet treat. “When we came into class we saw all sorts of stuff on his desk and it smelled sweet.” said Valeria Hansen, 8th grade. There were ingredients like ice, chocolate syrup, milk, and sugar all over the counter. The students filled up big bags with ice and ice-cream salt, and small bags with the sweet ingredients. They put the small bag inside the big one and shook it until it froze into ice-cream! The activity was supposed to teach students about mixtures and how particles change states.

All in all, students loved the activity. “It was fun because I’ve always tried to do it at home, but it’s never really turned out. But learning how to do it right was exciting.” says Valeria. “My favorite part was eating the ice-cream.” It was super fun and a great break from the school day.
